Is Sitecake stand-alone? (ie. does it rely on an external service?)

Hi,

We have a site that had been using Unify (a light CMS similar to Sitecake) but the company that distributed Unify has ended support, so we are looking for a replacement. We need a replacement, because Unify made use of calls to an external service in order to do things such as handle logins and store settings, etc, so the CMS no longer functions at all. We want to avoid such problems in the future.

From the documentation it appears that Sitecake might be stand-alone, but I wanted to verify before we make a purchase: does Sitecake make any calls to urls external to the server that it is installed on? If Sitecake went end-of-life, would we be left hanging again, or would the CMS continue to be operational?

Thanks

Sitecake is standalone.

It’s just a piece of PHP/JS software that you install on your server so you can edit your website on your own. It supports HTML and PHP pages.

We considered same mechanism as Unity has to keep track of licensed copies, but we decided not to go that way because of the exactly same situation you described.
